A Picturesque Venus Transit (aka Danji Buck-Moore, mem. Slight and Anabasine) will take control of the CKUT’s mighty airwaves for all five of November’s freaky Wednesdays from the noon hour till 2pm, bringing through an array of funny friends and extreme experimentalists from the deepest darkest corners of Montreal’s strangest scenes. On top of that he’ll take deep dives through some of his favourite obscure and famous recordings, be it on microchip or dusty wax, culling brain-bending and mind-dripping sonics from each and every corner of our weird and wonderful lily pad known as spaceship Earth. Please do call in, wherever you are, we really do want to talk to you.
It was a jammer weekend here in Montreal as the CKUT music department let loose with our annual Total Eclipse concert series: three nights in a row we invaded some of our favourite lofts and dive bars to bring weird & wild sounds to the ears of the city. It made for some pretty memorable times, including Nick Kuepfer’s spellbinding set at the Plant (pictured above) among countless other highlights. Thanks to everyone who helped out, played, and partied with us. CKUT loves you forever.

Last Friday TVM and CKUT stopped in on Slight (formerly Vostok 1) in their jam space and occasional underground music venue The Plant to capture a glorious little moment in space and time. Prepare yourself for some trip-y tones, leafy looks, and make sure to catch the band’s EP release show (featuring Nick Keupfer, Sea Oleena, Year of Glad and DJ Noah Bick) as part of this year’s Total Eclipse Concert Series!

A former Radio 1190 pal was in town for a visit over the weekend and we had some good adventures traversing around the city by foot, catching a sweet Drainolith/Andy Boay gig and eating plenty of Montreal’s famous bagels. Having houseguests visit always makes me remember how great the city can be — sometimes I need that kick in the ass to go out and do some local exploring.
Here in the music department, we’re real excited about our upcoming Total Eclipse Concert Series. Running Thursday till Saturday, we have three nights of killer jams lined up each curated by a different CKUT music program. If you’re in Montreal, you’re gonna want to be there. All the deets:
