CKUT TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE CHARTS::: November 14, 2017

Hi everyone,

I’ve been under the weather for the past week and have consequently missed a string of really good shows here in Montreal: Colleen, Do Make Say Think, Circuit des Yeux, Aim Low, the list goes on and on… Instead, I have been opting for extra sleep, cold meds, and plenty of soup to try and kick this bug. Got any secret remedies that unfailingly bring you back to life when cold season hits? Send ‘em over.

:::WHAT’S UP AT CKUT:::
Local duo Nyon is a force to be reckoned with: drawing equally from the realms of noise, drone, and free jazz, these expert sound-benders have carved out a truly unique space within Montreal’s experimental scene. Together J. Goddard & C. Scott bring their eclectic and often harsh sonic worlds to the masses every Wednesday in November for our If You Got Ears residency, and you’re cordially invited along for the ride. Stream it live from 12-2pm and gear up for some of the most out-there sounds on the dial.

CKUT TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE CHARTS::: April 12, 2016

unnamed

Hello radio,

These charts come to you from a haze of cold meds as I attempt to fight the end-of-semester bug that’s decimating campus right now. Coughs & sniffles aside, I’ve had a pretty nice week hanging with a former CKUT intern who’s visiting all the way from Germany and joining her in the usual sightseeing/record-shopping/etc that one does while vacationing in Montreal. How’s yr week going?

:::WHAT’S UP AT CKUT:::
Okay, so this feels kinda like cheating, but rather than plug our programming or events this week we wanna encourage you to head over to Cult Mtl’s website and show a little love to CKUT in their annual Best of Montreal poll. We’ve hung onto the Best Radio Station and Best Radio Show titles for many a year now, but that doesn’t mean we can rest on our laurels and expect the votes to roll in on their own. On the contrary: this is where you come in! If you love high-quality freeform, DIY, boundary-pushing radio then how ‘bout you let the good people at Cult know? With our finger on the musical pulse everywhere from Montreal’s underground lofts to Primavera Sound, not to mention our award-winning news & cultural programming, we hope we’ve given you enough in the past year to merit a vote or two in favour of the ol’ CKUT. Make it happen, y’all!

Jam for Justice: Spring Benefit Concert Review

cfab75c1-1cf2-4488-827a-6b2ee3625a5b

Jam for Justice is a non-profit organization that seeks to support local organizations by showcasing up-and-coming bands in front of eager audiences with all profits going to charity. This Friday, the stage was set for their sold out spring concert with Dans la Rue, a local homeless charity, receiving the fundraising.  Every set bled youthful passion as guitar solos and bountiful energy constantly inhabited the stage.  The setting was viciously positive with nearly every song from each band generating roaring cheers from the crowd.  In general the bands were unpolished and seemed to still be refining their songwriting, however, the platform provided by Jam for Justice was ideal for young musicians to explore their potential.
