New Shit with Tina Hanae + Sam Lu – September 7th 2015

9629222_300x300

This weeks New Shit was definitely one to document. One of our gradually more frequent hosts, Pablo Duran, was in our studios this Monday to deliver some of his favourite new tunes. From electronic to rock to hip-hop, there was something in there for everyone. Half way through the episode Pablo surprised us with two special guests, Tina Hanae and Sam Lu, who collaborated in a stunning live performance. If you’re not familiar with Tina’s music, now is the time my friend. Her talented singing and Sam’s spot-on accompanying electronic drum set is not to be missed, and luckily you can listen to it on our archives.

Don’t forget to tune in next week to hear our music coordinator, Joni, bring ya some more magic~~

New Shit with Chris Corsano and Mette Rasmussen

If you happened to be listening in on Monday’s edition of New Shit, you’ll know that we were lucky enough to have drummer Chris Corsano and alto-saxophonist Mette Rasmussen perform live for us in the studio. With crazy talented improvisations and interesting techniques (including putting seemingly random items in instruments), the result was a myriad of jazzy sounds that were something else entirely.

In the case that you missed out, don’t worry. You can check out the episode here. If you like what you hear, and we think you will, Chris and Mette have released an album worth hearing called All The Ghosts At Once. Jam out to your hearts content, and tune back to CKUT for more exciting performances and guests!

We’re pushing $40,000 and the pledges keep rolling in… If you haven’t donated, it’s not too late! You can pledge online and still be entered into the draw for our killer grand prizes.

Programming-wise, the CKUT music dept wants to help you overcome the Monday slump on NEW SHIT ~ we’re spinning new tunes today 3-5pm. Your hosts Amanda and Nick have some hot selections, many of which are charting this week, including cuts from Kaie Kellough‘s new LP Creole Continuum.

Now that our funding drive has come to a close, we want to thank those that pledged to both NEW SHIT and CKUT! We’ve been able to rock the airwaves for 25 years due to the generosity, support and involvement of so many communities over the years.

Also, do you dream of making playlists, talking with bands and going to shows? Then it’s about time you visited the Music Department. Whether you want to be behind the mic or behind the scenes, emails us to join the team! volunteering@ckut.ca
