Today’s WSTB + upcoming event goodness

Tim Beeler of Isle of Pine

Tim Beeler of Isle of Pine

Oh man oh man, funding drive is in full swing here and the station is hopping! Just check out that shot of local artist (and CKUT-er) Isle of Pine from a live improvised set that happened yesterday on New Shit, the CKUT music dept’s weekly show. In the other half of the studio, former music coordinator AJ Cornell was blasting away on an accordion and processing sounds from contact mics taped in & around the studios. And that’s just a peek at the special programming we’re featuring this week in honour of funding drive — it’s only getting wilder and more awesome from here on in.

Hope all NYC friends are staying safe out there!

Rad Frosh Mcgill QPIRG

Rad Frosh Mcgill 2011

By Andrew the Intern

Welcome back to school everyone! For those who aren’t in the know, Rad Frosh is about to happen, starting with this weekend. There are going to be lots of fun and crazy events this week and next.

Starting tonight, people will meet up on the McGill campus and head down to Montreal’s Gay Village for a night of dancing. It’s a great way to meet facilitators and other froshees before Rad Frosh starts. Everyone’s welcome! Meet us at 8pm at the Roddick Gates, and we’ll all travel to the village together. Bring your friends!

On Saturday head down to Il Motore (179 Jean-Talon West) for a night of live music and dancing. There will be some radical music such as Secret Trial Five, a political punk band. Also Ayo Leilani, a Hip-Hop/R&B/Breakbeat musician singing about issues of social justice, love and loss, and all aspects of life. Next on the list is Rae Spoon whos pop-infused music explores the various shades of love found everywhere from the club to the internal monsters within. Also featuring DJs Julie D and Petit-Loup Chou. FREE for all Rad Frosh Participants! 8pm-to closing.

Rae Spoon!

After the awesome parties, come chill at La Plante on Sunday for karaoke, arts and crafts, and a DJ filled night of hanging out, relaxing, dancing, and straight up fun after an awesome weekend. September 4th, 9:00pm-1:00am.

Finally, on Thursday Sept 8th come see Hari Kondabolu, a New York City comedian and writer, at the Center Cultural Georges-Vanier (2450 Workman, near Atwater & Notre-Dame). Hari Kondabolu’s humor often centers on social issues such as poverty, racism, and a rejection of racial stereotypes seen in media. Though this is a post-Rad Frosh event, Rad Frosh participants get in free!

Come check Rad Frosh out on Facebook. Have a good one!
