One of my projects got to open for ONO this weekend. Have you heard them? They’re nuts. Check it out, seriously. Everything else this week paled in comparison.
:::WHAT’S UP AT CKUT:::
For CKUT’s monthly experimental radio residency, If You Got Ears, we are thrilled to welcome Raphaël Foisy into the station as our curator and host. Raphaël is the founder and co-director of Montreal based cassette label Small Scale Music, which is interested in releasing a wide range of experimental music with a focus on improvisation. Since its foundation in September 2014 the label has released a dozen titles of Canadian and international musicians. Artists are being given total freedom on what appear on their albums (music and visual). As member of the grassroots collective La Passe and co-presenter of Mardis Tous Croches series, Raphaël is a longtime promoter and supporter of live experimental music. He also plays bass in the bands Brick Quartet, Bord à Bord and Ninja Simone and in different improvised music settings. For his If You Got Ears residency, Raphaël will play a range of experimental Canadian music brought back from the recent Brick Quartet tour, music on tapes from around the world, exceptional bands that have played at La Passe, and a variety of other local and exotic goodies.
