CKUT TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE CHARTS::: April 8, 2014

gza_zps9b44ceb7

Lots going on around town these days: election mania, a killer lecture by the GZA, a tape label launch, and more. . . Plus, we seem to have shaken the endless sub-zero spell, hopefully for good this time — it’s been a long winter here on the island of Montreal.

Today on the Montreal Sessions: Fanfare Performers & André Daneau In-Studio

Today’s episode of the Montreal Sessions will find us digging deeper into the world of solo performers from a historical perspective: if you tuned into last week’s episode, you heard host Jon C. (the brain behind the local One Man Band Festival) guide listeners through the beginnings of documented solo performance. Now we’re picking up where things left off with a glimpse into the past century of one-person acts, including traveling artists and fanfare/circus-style performers. Plus, there will be a live in-studio performance by André Daneau. Catch it all this afternoon from 3-5pm EST, streaming live on CKUT.

Today on New Shit

Today on If You Got Ears: Matt May Curation Takeover + Mands Live In-Studio Performance

We are very excited to be welcoming local artist Matt May (Ought, Welter & Associates, Terrarbor) into the studio to host the April edition of If You Got Ears. Here’s the deal on what he’s got planned for the next five episodes of the show, straight from the horse’s mouth:

“I’ll be focusing on the buried, the overlooked, the rejected, but also the celebrated in noise, drone, screamo, post-hardcore, post-punk, and other fringes of the experimental. An emphasis on the dark, the gloomy, the vibrant and the visceral. There will be explorations of a few blossoming (or formerly blossoming) scenes in northern New Jersey and upstate New York – as well as Montreal, the UK, and Japan, to name a few. Local purveyors of all that is good and right in the world will be joining me.”

Plus, to kick things off in a properly loud fashion, local post-punk trio Mands will be playing a live in-studio set. Catch it all from 12-2pm today on thee one and only CKUT.

CKUT TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE CHARTS::: April 1, 2014

Today’s anthem, inspired by a screening of Born in Flames that CKUT organized last night:

If you haven’t seen the film, it’s worth checking out — a good reminder of the power of radio and why it’s essential to keep kicking against the forces that keep us down.

till next week,
