As summer finally arrives in Montreal, so does Suoni Per Il Popolo! The avante garde and experimental art festival starts this Wednesday (June 5th) and runs until June 22nd. So after your days soaking up the sun on mountain, spend the cool nights checking out some werid (but awesome!) bands.
This month’s Montreal Sessions gets us pumped for the nights to come as Maica Mia, who plays on June 6th at Casa, and Jonny Paradise curate behalf of the Suoni festival. Today they will interview Suoni artistic director Steve Guimond and local solo artist Nick Kuepfer, who plays with Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley on the 6th.
Steve Guimond is no stranger to CKUT, being its former music director and who now works as Suoni’s artistic director. As someone heavily involved in Montreal’s music scene and has worked very hard to expose interesting new bands, he will be great to hear from as he chats about the festival.
Nick Kuepfer will be playing “a warm mix of guitar and field recording manipulations” at Sala Rosa. On the bill as well is founding member of Sonic youth, Lee Ranaldo, who will be playing an acoustic set alongside Steve Shelley. Definitely an event to check out.
Maica and Jonny also bring a special surprise as they give away tickets to some of the shows playing this week:
Glenn Jones and M. Mucci playing avant folk at Casa del Popolo and Lee Ranaldo with Steve shelley and Nick Kuepfer
Check out the Montreal session playing 15h-17h for info, great music and of course a chance to win those tickets!
