Remember the UK bass screwing, ethnomusical, live vocal spiked DJ set that Institutional Prostitution’s Melissa Gagne threw down on Monday’s New Shit as Babi Audi? We sure do.
But for those a little fuzzy on the details, or if you didn’t catch it, it’s now up on the FREE MUSIC ARCHIVE for your listening and downloading pleasure.
For all those who missed the chance to tune in to the MONTREAL SESSIONS yesterday at 3pm, owe it to themselves to check the archives for an amazing show.
Filling in for ELEMENTS host Ms. Benn we had Masters At Work’s Ken Dawg backed by DJ Cream and Widget speaking with female emcee Divine Creations about women in Montreal’s hip hop scene.
What followed was inspired discussion about consciousness, feminism and modern hip hop from some of the guiding lights in Montreal’s community.

We celebrated the birth of art with a raucous party on Friday night, complete with cake and beer and installation art and a whole lotta good noise. The awesome work pictured above, by Montreal’s own Waxhead, was just one of the great pieces that graced the walls of Brasserie Beaubien during the festivities. By the time bands had wrapped up, the night turned into a full-fledged dance party and the small space grew hot enough to make us all forget the plummeting temperatures outside∑ here’s to another great year of art for 2013!
We here at CKUT are not ones to let a little sub-zero weather slow down our creative juices, and today is no exception. This afternoon’s NEW SHIT is going to bring all sorts of wild sounds to your auditory cortex, including an interview & live performance from Babi Audi, aka Melissa Gagne of Institutional Prostitution. She’ll be joining us in the studio at 3pm with an arsenal of gear to conjure audio magic for the airwaves. We’ve also got a whole bunch of new local music that we’re psyched to spin, including jams from Mozart’s Sister, Blue Hawaii, Ruff Talons, and more. Join us with your ears, 3-5pm today on 90.3fm or via the CKUT website & New Shit archives.
This week, we celebrate Art’s Birthday! And in that spirit, here are works from the artists displaying tonight courtesy of Cam Novak. Click em for concerts!
Hope the new year is treating everyone well so far — here in Montreal, we’ve been hit with a bit of a thaw and people are venturing outside to check out all the cool stuff that’s happening around the city these days∑ and trust me, there is a lot of it. We’re celebrating another round of Art’s Birthday on Friday plenty of live music, visual installations, and cake (of course), plus there are so many other righteous shows coming up∑ come party with us, Montreal!
