Tim Beeler of Isle of Pine
Oh man oh man, funding drive is in full swing here and the station is hopping! Just check out that shot of local artist (and CKUT-er) Isle of Pine from a live improvised set that happened yesterday on New Shit, the CKUT music dept’s weekly show. In the other half of the studio, former music coordinator AJ Cornell was blasting away on an accordion and processing sounds from contact mics taped in & around the studios. And that’s just a peek at the special programming we’re featuring this week in honour of funding drive — it’s only getting wilder and more awesome from here on in.
Hope all NYC friends are staying safe out there!
Hope you guys got to tune in to our very special presentation of New Shit this last Monday. We had a truckload of performances from some CKUT homies, an interview with Marie Davidson of Les Momies de Palerme, and took a bunch of photos! You can listen to it all here and check out the pictures and links to the bands below:
Craig of Feel Alright on acoustic guitar
Andrea-Jane Cornell (collaborating with Isle of Pine) on accordion, effects and vocals
Isle of Pine’s microphones
Tim Beeler of Isle of Pine on keyboard, pedals, acoustic guitar and vocals
Isle of Pine
Astral Swans (Matt, also of Extra Happy Ghost & Hot Little Rocket) on electric guitar

And don’t forget that we’re still deep in Funding Drive mode, so be sure to call in or donate online if you dig what you’re hearing. Or better yet, if you’re at the show then stop by our table and donate in person. It’s an early gig so there’s still plenty of time for your Halloween shenanigans later in the night. Don’t sleep on this one, Montreal.
Got yr earplugs handy? We’ve got one last week of ear-bleeding goodness for October’s Montreal Sessions, and it’s an extra special funding drive metal extravaganza. And of course, there will be lots of great metal tunes sandwiched in between.
If you dig the sounds, don’t forget to show our funding drive some love. Keep supporting the loud & the local!

I’m back from another whirlwind trip to New York for CMJ, feeling inspired and psyched on radio. Got to hang with lots of old pals, met some great new friends, and saw too many shows to recall. Thanks to all who came out to catch the DIY For All Sizes panel — it was pretty amazing to see so many folks in the audience and to hear their radio stories. I’m battling the inevitable post-fest cold now, but it was 100% worth it.
