Do You Like to Study? And Work? You Could Be Our Next Work-Study Music Librarian!

Calling all kids who qualify for McGill’s Work Study Program: CKUT’s looking for a new Music Librarian!


As the Music Librarian, your job will be to work closely with the Music Department Coordinator to ensure the upkeep of CKUT’s music library as well as the smooth intake of new submissions. You will be responsible for typing up the mail log and fast tracking any releases with upcoming shows/particularly awesome content. Part of your job will require listening to newly arrived music, making a list of top 10 new releases for the on-air studio and writing reviews for the music blog when possible. As the librarian you will liase with record and record promo companies and music artists for tracking and follow-up on packages of interest to the station. You will coordinate the production of Total Eclipse of the Chart program to volunteers (a pre-recorded show designed to highlight our Top 30 spins and to train new volunteers). You will also be expected to provide social media outreach support (Free Music Archive, Twitter, Facebook, Total Eclipse blog, campusmixtapes.org, etc.). You will be expected to have regular office hours each week. The candidate will familiarize themselves with CKUT mandate, programming, and policies.

Required Skills:

You should be self-motivated, take initiative independently and have good communication skills. Experience with social media and music journalism is an asset. An interest in radio and broadcasting and the role of independent campus media is important. You should also have a strong working knowledge of local and non-commercial music, and some familiarity with the diversity of CKUT’s music programming.
